Maggie explores dog friendly Nashville, TN with Whistle

Recently, Maggie and I were invited to perform a training demonstration for the patients and staff at the Monroe Carroll, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee. We invited our friend Aimee to tag along as our lovely assistant, and after Maggie had high-fived just about everyone in the Vanderbilt community, the three of us went out to explore dog-friendly Nashville.

In Nashville, you’re never far from a greenspace or park to enjoy with your dog. Shelby Park, Edwin Warner Park and Centennial Park all have off-leash, fully-fenced dog areas. Centennial even has a separate run for small dogs – and the park also a full-scale replica of the Parthenon in case your dog is also a history buff. Maggie liked running up and down the Parthenon steps, but that’s because she prefers to make her own history.

After all that outdoor adventure, Maggie found treats and more kindred spirits at Crossroads Pets, a community pet shop, dog wash and adoption center in the Germantown neighborhood. We also stopped by Wags and Whiskers, a holistic-minded store and self dog wash on the east side of town.  Maggie loves to run and play in the mud and water; in Nashville, it’s so easy to take your dog out to play and stop for a bath on the way home.

Humans need treats, too, and Maggie was happy to oblige us by lying tableside on the patio at various Nashville cafes. On our A list: Crema, Bongo Java, Barista Parlor, Edleys BBQ, and Bobbie’s Dairy Dip.
